Now let me preface this by saying I am in by no means a doctor or wellness expert. I just research and summarize what I understand to be true. A few people have asked me what exactly is detox water and/or lemon water, and why do I swear by it.
Well, first off the reason I swear by them is because I can really notice the difference of the detox water when I am doing a smoothie cleanse and when I am not. My face has slimmed out, and my bowel movements improved. I am however still working on the consistency so that I can tell if it makes a difference in flattening out my stomach, which is a benefit I’ve heard many rave about.
Now lemon water/infused water alone won’t make you lose weight, but it does aid in weight loss when paired with a healthier diet. Benefits of lemon water include vitamin C, antioxidants, potassium and it helps absorb iron better from foods high in iron. It also makes it tastier for someone who doesn’t particularly like drinking plain water. Lemon water is also said to stimulate the liver, reduce inflammation by removal of uric acid which can build up and cause joint pain, and boosts the immune system (vitamin C) and energy.
You can get creative with infused water by trying different fruits and adding herbs. You’ll see other recipes I have on the blog that I love like strawberry, blueberry, and rosemary water. Rosemary is an herb and the benefits include immune system booster, antibacterial, migraine help, and mood elevation. Strawberry and blueberry each have their properties including fiber, cholesterol reduction, and high in antioxidants.
Water is best at room temperature or warm, but never ice cold. And make sure to always dilute lemon juice since it is acidic and can wear away teeth enamel and try every other day or brushing teeth right after consumption.
Hope this helps… enjoy!
